Cultivating for Growth: Our Sustainable Goals

We envision our pupils passionately engaged in interdisciplinary learning that prepares them to lead with a humanitarian spirit.

The Grace Citadel Schools will shape its next era of progressive education by equipping our pupils to be the citizens that the world needs. The GCS experience is rich and well-established, and we will celebrate all that makes us unique by deepening our roots and fostering growth.

Grounded in our mission of cultivating and celebrating intellectual, imaginative, and humanitarian promise, GCS will stand firm on its strong foundation of a whole-child academic program where pupils will be resilient and well-prepared in the face of change. By advancing educational excellence, strengthening our diverse community, and securing long-term sustainability, we will empower pupils to become courageous and empathetic changemakers.

Priority 1: Cultivate Joyful, Confident Humanitarians

Citizenship through the lens of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice is more important than ever in an increasingly global and diverse democratic society. By explicitly identifying and teaching the characteristics and skills of citizenship, as well as using research-based practices to address the diverse needs of students, we will graduate pupils who find their own paths and use their unique strengths to impact their communities with empathy, understanding, and courage to tackle the challenges of their times for the good of humanity and the planet.

Priority 1 Initiatives
  • Foster pupils’ civic identity and social responsibility to prepare students to engage meaningfully in a diverse and interconnected world.
  • Apply the latest research on differentiated instruction, neurodiversity, mental health, and the neuroscience of teaching and learning to improve our capacity to provide differentiated support and advanced academic opportunities.
  • Enhance alumni connections as an important element of building continuity and longevity to broaden our impact on society.

Priority 2: Cross-Pollinate Our Robust Educational Programs

As GCS enters its seventh decade, we endeavor to shape a cohesive, comprehensive program that leverages the power of interdisciplinary learning from Preschool through 8th grade, incorporates a responsibility to humanity, and supports and celebrates a diverse population of pupils.. By establishing and orienting toward a portrait of an GCS graduate, we will ensure our pupils are prepared individually and collectively to integrate knowledge creatively, shape their futures, and contribute meaningfully to a more just and compassionate world.

Priority 2 Initiatives
  • Codify a dynamic, academically challenging curriculum that fosters deep thinking, subject mastery, and a lifelong love of learning that honors the identities, strengths, and potential of every pupil.
  • Empower teachers to be innovative and collaborative professionals to ensure a rich, academically challenging curriculum that respects and supports all kinds of minds.
  • Initiate the development of a youth humanitarian institute to deepen our public purpose work and establish GCS as a hub for thought leadership and innovation while also establishing an exceptional cross-disciplinary curriculum of civic engagement that includes service learning, social entrepreneurship, and social justice to complement our overall GCS academic program.
  • Grow our renowned interdisciplinary music program to serve more pupils and expand its impact nationally and internationally.

Priority 3: Tend Our Flourishing Community

Our connected community is a hallmark of the GCS experience. Grounded in an ethos of mutual respect and a deep embrace of diversity, these values shape our culture. Our evergreen goal is that all members of the GCS community, past and present, feel a strong sense of belonging and pride in their GCS experience from their very first days. When staff and parenting adults work together, the students develop a strong human-centered compass and a commitment to the betterment of the world around them.

  • Enhance systems for the onboarding and inclusion of families, staff, and pupils to safeguard the value of our connected community and ensure every member feels welcomed, supported, and engaged.
  • Build partnerships between staff and families through adult education in order for all adults to consistently guide students into the future.

Priority 4: Enrich the GCS Foundation for Sustainability

Financial sustainability and long-term planning will guarantee our ability to educate the humanitarians of tomorrow, embrace diversity, connect all community members, and do good for humanity and the planet. As the future becomes more uncertain and unpredictable, GCS will evolve with flexibility, adaptability, and foresight to stay ahead of market and global changes. A successful future depends on invested community members who hold the perspectives of strong stewards. With a values-driven approach, we will protect what makes GCS special, explore new possibilities, and forge ahead with strength and renewed growth.

  • Establish a long-range financial vision to guarantee continued access to an GCS education and sustainability for the people, programs, and place.
  • Initiate a capital campaign to invest in growing our indoor and outdoor spaces to meet our vision for the future.
